Sightseeing

Altea's Passeig Maritimo , the attractive palm-lined esplanade, is a hive of activity night and day. It's a good place from where to buy your English daily newspaper with a café con leche whilst people watching and enjoying the beautiful views over the bay. In front of this Altea has a six kilometre stretch of pebbles beaches, mixed with inlets and cliffs (including a naturist beach).

The two main beaches are Playa la Roda and Playa de Cap Blanch. Both beaches are a mixture of pebbles and sand. The most visited beach, Playa de Cap Blanch, which you can find south of Altea.

To the north of Altea is a shingle beach at the end of which is a small cove called the Cala del Soio, which is characteristic for its black pebbles. Opposite a small island called L'Olla, also north of Altea, is another beach made up primarily of pebbles. The beach shares its name. At Mascarat Point at the northern end of Altea Bay are some shingle coves, namely La Galera, La Barreta, and La Solsida.

There are two high quality watersports centres in Altea, El Puerto Deportivo Luis Campomanes (or Greenwich Marina) and El Club Nautico de Altea. At both these centres you will be able to go water-skiing, diving (the visibility often exceeds 20 metres in this clean area of sea, thus divers of all abilities will find a treasure-trove of rock formations, water grottoes, winding tunnels and an infinite variety of marine life), fishing, sailing and taking local boat cruises.

Altea is the starting and finishing point to one of the Mediterranean 's most important sailing events known as The Two Hundred Miles. It involves a round trip to Ibiza and back and takes place in winter.
